The issue is caused by a lawsuit that Microsoft lost back in 2009 so that no backward compatibility is respected and even updated versions of 2007 stopped working after 2009.

I've just fixed that by grabbing a pre-2009 version of Word 2007. That's a pretty rare find in 2025, lol
