The interim solution I found. Uninstall Windows Terminal so Windows Console Host becomes the default console. Complete the development of the chess engine while forcing the use of the MS Gothic font, since it has the black pawn the same size as the white pawn. In the next version, I will check again what are the new capabilities of the updated Windows Terminal. If it will not support a command line option or WinAPI call, I will have to force edit the JSON settings file. For a distant future version, I may ditch console mode and go full GUI. With GUI I can always use chess piece images instead of Unicode characters.
