I have handled a similar use case with a 'Bot' in AppSheet that listens for a 'Success' or 'Error' value returned from the API call and then branches on the value of that returned data to send an in-app notification to the user and a message to the app administrator that an API call has failed or to do nothing and proceed with the next step.
