The default retention period when set from the console is 7 days. Which is what you currently see. The only way I've found to change this is to disable cross-region backup replication and then enable it again, this time setting the desired retention period in days.

During the period of time when the backup replication is disabled no changes will be replicated, but disabling current replication will not delete existing replicated data.
