I know that this is an old question, but this just happened to me with a Sharp printer, so I'm adding this answer in mostly for myself (because I'll probably encounter it again with the same printer).

In my case, Windows Firewall had disabled access to Network Scanner Tool Lite, which prevented it from communicating with the scanner. Enabling it for private and public networks caused it to work.
